State of Texas executes Joseph Garcia

The State of Texas executed Joseph Garcia on December 4, 2018 after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected several legal challenges filed by his attorneys. He was convicted and sentenced to death in 2003 under Texas’ law of parties for the murder of Officer Aubrey Hawkins, despite the fact that no evidence directly tied him to the shooting.

Garcia was the fourth person convicted of killing Officer Hawkins to be executed; two others remain on death row.  He also was the 100th person convicted in Dallas or Tarrant County to be executed since 1982.

The State of Texas has put 12 people to death this year and has one remaining scheduled execution in 2018.
