The editorial board of the Dallas Morning News called for abolition of the death penalty in Texas TODAY! Only the scond paper in Texas to do so, after the Austin American Statesman. Multiple Texas papers have called for a moratorium on executions, but not full abolition. With the Texas Legislature considering expansion of the death penalty in Texas (Jessica’s Law), this position by the DMN becomes even more important to consider, particularly taking into account that Texas has committed 11 of the 12 executions in the US this year.
