The Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty will hold its annual conference on Saturday, January 26th at the Crowne Plaza Houston West. The conference which is called “Seeking Justice in Texas…Educating For Life” features Mike Farrell, well know TV actor (B.J. Honeycutt in M*A*S*H) and activist, as the keynote speaker. The day-long conference also features several workshops for the conference attendees. TCADP is a state-wide, grass roots organization working to end the use of capital punishment in the state. In 2007 Texas accounted for almost 2/3 of the executions that took place in the nation. Texas carried out 26 executions; the next highest number of executions by another state was 3. Forty of the states did not conduct any executions. “ While TCADP thinks one execution is too many, I think that even if you support the death penalty you must ask yourself why Texas executes so many people.”, said Bob Van Steenburg, TCADP Vice President. TCADP has also recently published an annual report on the death penalty in Texas which can be found at the TCADP web site, https://www.tcadp.org/.
