State of Texas executes Rosendo Rodriguez

Yesterday, March 27, the State of Texas executed Rosendo Rodriguez for the 2008 murder and assault of Summer Baldwin in Lubbock.

The United States Supreme Court rejected Rodriguez’s final appeal just before 6:00 PM. According to the Texas Tribune, “In his final statement, Rodriguez called for an investigation into the Lubbock County district attorney and medical examiner, saying they were involved in thousands of wrongful convictions. He also called for a boycott of Texas businesses until the death penalty is stopped.”

Rodriguez’s execution is the fourth in Texas this year, and the seventh in the United States. Lubbock County accounts for 13 executions since 1982. There are currently five other executions scheduled to take place in Texas through July.
