TEXAS:
Jury to Decide Fate of Inmate Accused in Guard's Death —-Closing
arguments begin Monday morning in the capital murder trial of a Huntsville
prison inmate
Closing arguments begin Monday morning in the capital murder trial of a
Huntsville prison inmate accused of killing a TDCJ officer.
Jerry Martin is accused of killing guard Susan Canfield as Martin and
another inmate escaped from the Wynne Unit in September 2007.
Prosecutors said Martin drove a stolen vehicle into the horse Canfield was
riding, throwing her on top of the truck and then to the ground.
Martin has served 12 years of a 50-year sentence for attempted murder. He
now faces the death penalty if convicted.
Prosecutors expect the case to be handed over to the jury Monday
afternoon.
