The State of Texas executed TaiChin Preyor at 9:03 PM last night, July 27, 2017, after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his final appeal. Preyor was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of 20-year-old Jamie Tackett in 2004 in San Antonio.
Preyor received appalling legal representation during his appeals from a disbarred attorney in California and a probate and real estate lawyer who reportedly relied on Wikipedia to research Texas legal procedures.
Preyor’s execution was be the first to occur in Texas since March and the fifth to date this year. It was the second execution involving a case out of Bexar County in 2017. Bexar County accounts for 44 executions since 1982.
