On Wednesday, November 16, 2011, the State of Texas carried out the last scheduled execution of the year, putting to death Guadalupe Esparza. Esparza was convicted and sentenced to death for the rape and murder of seven-year old Alyssa Vasquez in San Antonio in 1999. This was the 13th execution to take place in Texas in 2011, out of 43 nationwide.
